Fantastic weekend camping here in a tent! Mid-September camping…no mosquitoes but we did have rainfall overnight. Unfortunately, the beautiful lake had blue- green algae so we couldn’t swim in it. Definitely a place to return to.

Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park is a beautiful and serene park located within easy reach of Lac La Biche.

Located on an island in the middle of Lac La Biche, there is lots to see and do. The campsites are very generous and quiet, the beaches and walking trails are in good shape, and there are plenty of beautiful places to sit out and enjoy the water. The only downside is you cannot swim in the water at the moment due to blue green algae.

You will also likely see lots of animals during your time here. We saw many deer but no bears, although they are known to frequent the area.

I will certainly return again in the future.

Nice private camping stalls. Lots of walking biking trails.
Lake has an algae warning around late August but the campground is quiet and relaxing and close enough to town for minor provisions.
We'll be back for sure.

Lovely Island, this Provincial park is full of Old nature that is untouched by wildfires and such. Had a great time in there, the long trails, the Lakeside beach, and even the Camping areas. Just please make sure to pick up your garbage and don't litter!

I stayed here in the fall for 4 days and loved it. This is the only Alberta provincial park that is on an island and it has the oldest forest growth in the province. There is so much to do at this campground that I didn't get to go on all of the trails, hit the beach, or attend any of the guided tours or interpretive sessions.

I did bring my kayak with me, so I was able to enjoy being on a large lake with the mallards, loons, and other waterfowl. I even saw a bald eagle the size of a large dog when I paddled around Birch Island.

The highlight for me was sitting around the campfire, looking at all of the stars provided by the dark sky preserve, while listening to the waves crashing against the shore from my waterfront site.

Some of the more mundane information: you have to pay for the firewood, but you get a lot for $10, the outhouses were clean, the sites were large and mostly private. I learned the hard way that you cannot paddle completely around the island as there is a gravel bar under the bridge connecting the island to the shore. This bar made one side of the bridge have stagnant water that a bit of blue-green algae was growing. I did not see any anywhere else along the shore or anywhere else in the lake.

I will definitely be going back.

We found a nice quiet little spot in the day use area that we had all to ourselves, no one else around. Nice and quiet and beautiful place to have a picnic meal!

The views of the lake all around the park are so beautiful and lots of bird watching opportunities. Will definitely be back again!
