My wife and I are on the #eatjersey challenge to visit & have a meal in all 564 towns of NJ. We chose the Manila Cafe for Mt Laurel, our 116th town.

Manila Cafe is a traditional Filipino grocery store & restaurant with turo-turo ("point-point" in Filipino) style counter service where you point at what you want.

The pancit and pork sisig were great. But the real reason we stopped by was the craving for some halo halo dessert after an unusually warm & sticky September day! Masarap! We also picked up some awesome ube flavored polveron cookies that aren't easy to find, even at other Filipino stores in the state.

Walked in and found exactly what I was expecting... beautiful, hot, fresh and ready entrees at the counter on display.... beef stew, pork stew, fish options, veggie stews... fresh rice, pancit, and lumpia...lots of freshly baked doughs and pastries.... I ordered a combination meal: beef stew with lumpia and pancit. It was all fairly priced! I also ordered some plantain and jackfruit dessert, perfect crisp, loved the flavor!

The beef stew had great flavor and the beef was falling apart at the perfect texture... I especially loved the vegetables in the stew.

The pancit was exactly as I expected. Very good ! The lumpia was also amazing... at first glance it looked like it may be dry but it wasn't dry at all
.. the flavor was perfect and not oily.

I ate right then and there within 2 minutes of ordering and I bought extra to go. Convenient and lovely environment to eat; I really enjoyed the art work on the walls. The staff was extremely nice as well!

There's also many pantry items to buy and take away such as treats, breads, condiments and sauces, special drinks, etc. I bought a big jar of sweet chili sauce on my way out 🙂

I'm looking forward to returning.

I enjoyed the chicken BBQ and the Asado Bread. Disappointed with the Halo- Halo did not have much ingredients in it- lots of Nata de Coco in different colors, munggo, kaong and the ice cream.

Fantastic service and excellent food! The server was so kind and let us try some of the fish as we have never had it before. It was delicious! I had the beef stew and bbq skewer. I feel like there are enough options for everyone, even the pickiest of eaters. Food was slightly cold, however we went at the end of the night when they were closing and they were sadly out of lumpia. Overall, a hidden gem and cannot wait to return!

Before I got food I looked around the market and they had a nice selection of Filipino goods. It’s always cool being able to try different snacks from around the world.

For food we tried the fried plantain, seafood pancake, and the BBQ stick. The halo halo for dessert wasn’t for me but definitely was interesting. Overall pretty good food.

We usually order from them because their food is really good. My order got messed up (I wish I took that person’s name when I placed the order 2 days prior) but they still tried to get everything for me which was great, however, when I asked the person on the phone if it’s a full tray, she got very defensive by saying they don’t cheat on their customers. That was such a rude answer. The owners are nice people but this particular staff is plain rude and very disrespectful.
